Per Suzanne's Request

Here you go Suz - and anyone else who's interested.

Nelson had been sleeping, at least part-time, in a toddler bed. One morning I found the long side piece split in two directions -- probably from the big brother jumping on it from his bed. It could have been fixed, but we figured it was time for a big boy bed anyway. We bought a new bed, but I just couldn't bring myself to shell out another $80 for a headboard, so I had a 'Suzanne' Day. A Suzanne Day means that I went to the DI and found a headboard that was in really solid condition for $5, plus a can of spray paint, and I went on ebay to the Beyond Bedding Store to win a $0.99 bid for a comforter set to match the one she sent to Ethan. It is about $20 for shipping, but still a bargain. A valance is even included that didn't make it in the picture. When Nelson's bed set came, Ethan was looking at the picture included in the packaging and said, "You didn't get the lamp." Of course it was a very cute lamp with a boat on the shade. I told him that he didn't really have anywhere to put a lamp close to his bed. He just said, "You could get one of those", pointing at the nightstand in the picture. So in the next day or so when I was running errands without any kids I checked at the DI and found a very solid but scratched and dirty nightstand for $7. It took about $20 in stripper, finish and hardware, and I think it looks pretty darn good! I did it that color because it matches the big dresser. Isn't it in to have different woods??? I went to buy a cheap lamp with a white shade to paint a boat on it. When I came home with the lamp in the picture I told Ethan that we would paint a boat and he said, "I like it better this way." The lamp from the bedding package had a white candlestick base -- he definitely likes blue!

Thanks to Janet for the comforter set -- again a cheap bid from Beyond Bedding! The picture makes her bed look more gold than it does in person. We painted her baby-blue wall pink and painted some inexpensive canvasses to match a few flowers on her bed. Maybe she needs a bigger dark brown headboard like Nelson's. Her room's not done yet, but at least she has something on one wall now.

Thanks to Suzanne for the postcard collection! Kaleb's not really into military, but he loves camo. His headboard was $3 and his nightstand was $15- plus a couple of cans of spray paint. I think his comforter set was a $5.00 bid win.

Holly, dear, after reading your blog post and looking at the beautiful pictures, I know where all of my interior decorating skill genes went: they went to you, your sisters and several other cousins. I'm happy you got them, but I'm just a little bit jealous!
